Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board was established under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ordinance No. 1 of 1971. It was the successor of West Pakistan Textbook Board, which was established in 1962. The main objective establishing of this board was to provide to the students of the province error free textbooks on time and that to on minimum possible price.

Besides providing error free textbooks to the student the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa textbook Board also helps in the development of the printing and publishing industry of the province.
